CSM and PSM are both certifications that focus on Scrum, but they differ in a few key ways.

CSM stands for Certified Scrum Master, and it is offered by the Scrum Alliance, a non-profit organization. The CSM certification focuses on the basic principles and practices of Scrum, and it is aimed primarily at individuals who want to become Scrum Masters or Agile coaches.

PSM stands for Professional Scrum Master, and it is offered by Scrum.org, a for-profit organization. The PSM certification program is more comprehensive than the CSM program and covers a wider range of topics related to Scrum. It is aimed at individuals who want to become Scrum Masters and who are interested in applying Scrum in complex and challenging environments.

Some specific differences between CSM and PSM include:

Certification process: CSM certification requires attending a two-day in-person course taught by a certified Scrum trainer and passing a certification exam. PSM certification requires passing an online certification exam.

Exam format: CSM certification exam is a multiple-choice test. PSM certification exam is a combination of multiple-choice and true/false questions, as well as case studies and essay questions.

Renewal process: CSM certification requires renewing every two years by paying a renewal fee and earning continuing education units (CEUs). PSM certification does not expire and does not require renewal.

Cost: CSM certification is generally less expensive than PSM certification.

Overall, both CSM and PSM certifications are recognized in the industry and can be valuable for individuals interested in Scrum and Agile methodologies. It is up to the individual to decide which certification program better fits their career goals and learning objectives.
