I make complex management ideas practical.
I’m Jos Postma, a product leader, author and practitioner with more than 15 years of experience working in product management, technology and organizational change.
My work sits at the intersection of product leadership, organizational design, engineering platforms and practical management frameworks. I’m particularly interested in a simple question:
How do you turn complex ideas into something people can actually understand, decide on and use?
That question runs through both my professional work and my books.
I currently work in a senior product role within a large international technology environment, where I focus on products and platforms used at scale. Over the years, I have worked across product ownership, product management, technology, operations, Agile ways of working and organizational design.
I have also coached product owners and teams through more than 100 coaching and development sessions, helping people move from knowing a framework to applying it effectively in practice.
From frameworks to practical decisions
I have always been drawn to frameworks that help people deal with complexity.
Not frameworks for the sake of frameworks.
The useful ones help us:
- communicate more clearly;
- decide what matters;
- structure teams around flow;
- understand complexity;
- reduce unnecessary effort;
- turn strategy into action.
That is why topics such as the Pyramid Principle, Team Topologies, Cynefin, Scrum, the Pareto Principle and Customer Effort Score feature so prominently in my work.
I am interested not only in what these models say, but especially in:
When are they useful?
Where do they break down?
How do you apply them in the real world?
That practical perspective is the foundation of the work I publish here.
Product leadership in complex environments
A large part of my career has been spent working with complex technology products and organizations.
My experience includes:
Product management and product ownership
Turning customer, business and technical needs into products that create measurable value.
Platform and engineering products
Working with products that enable other teams rather than serving only an end customer directly.
Organizational design and flow
Exploring how team structures, dependencies, cognitive load and platform capabilities influence delivery.
Complex decision-making
Using evidence, feedback and practical frameworks to make better decisions when there is no obvious answer.
Coaching and development
Helping product professionals and teams strengthen their skills, judgment and ability to operate independently.
My preference is always to connect theory to actual work.
Because knowing the terminology is rarely the difficult part.
Applying it when reality becomes messy is.
Author of practical management books
Writing is another way I explore that same problem.
I am the author of a growing collection of practical management books designed to make important ideas understandable without turning them into oversimplified checklists.
My “in 60 Minutes” books cover topics including:
Pyramid Principle in 60 Minutes
How to structure thinking and communication so the main message becomes clear.
Team Topologies in 60 Minutes
How team design, interaction patterns and cognitive load affect organizational flow.
Cynefin Framework in 60 Minutes
How to make better decisions by recognizing different types of situations and complexity.
Agile Scrum in 60 Minutes
A practical introduction to Scrum and iterative product development.
Pareto Principle in 60 Minutes
How to focus attention and resources on the few things that create disproportionate value.
Customer Effort Score in 60 Minutes
How to identify and reduce the friction customers experience when interacting with an organization.
Making complex ideas useful
Across my work, writing and coaching, a few principles keep returning.
Clarity beats complexity
Complex environments do not need more complicated explanations. They need better thinking.
Frameworks are tools, not answers
A model should improve judgment. It should never replace it.
Context matters
What works in one organization, team or situation may fail completely in another.
Flow matters more than local optimization
Improving one team or metric means little if the overall system becomes slower.
Practical application is the real test
A framework becomes valuable only when someone can use it to make a better decision tomorrow.
These principles are also what guide the articles and practical guides on this site.

A little beyond work
There is more to me than product management and frameworks.
I have been involved in endurance sports for many years and completed multiple long-distance triathlon challenges. Training for an Ironman is surprisingly similar to building products: progress comes from consistency, feedback, adaptation and being very selective about where you spend your energy.
I also produce melodic and deep house music.
Both give me something professional life rarely does: long stretches where there is nothing to optimize except the craft itself.
Why jospostma.com exists
This site is where I bring together the subjects I work on, write about and continue to explore.
You will find:
Books
Concise practical introductions to important management ideas.
Guides
In-depth explanations designed to help you understand and apply specific frameworks.
Ideas
Articles and observations about product leadership, organizational design, complexity and management.
Speaking
Topics I can contribute to through talks, workshops and professional conversations.
